The primary contact number for alarm companies to use is (440) 286-1234, which is a direct dial to our Dispatch Center at the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office.  If you are establishing or updating an alarm system with an 24/7 monitoring company, please use the (440) 286-1234 as the contact number for calling in alarms to the Dispatch center.   The  Geauga Sheriff’s Dispatch Center handles all calls and dispatching for Bainbridge Township Police and Bainbridge Township Fire.

Police Department

The Bainbridge Township Police Department was founded on June 1, 1975.  Initially, the department consisted of a chief and four patrolmen. The police department currently has 25 full-time officers who provide professional law enforcement services to our community.  These include proactive patrol, traffic enforcement, criminal investigations, traffic crash investigation, citizen assists, and community relations.  Keeping the community safe is our top priority.

This department also has several civilian employees, whose duties include maintaining police records and files, staying current with the record retention requirements, assisting public visitors to the station, and a variety of administrative responsibilities.

BECOMING A BAINBRIDGE POLICE OFFICER

To become a Bainbridge Police Officer, you must meet the minimum requirements, which are to be (21) years of age, a citizen of the United States, possess a valid driver’s license, have a high school degree or equivalent, and have no felony and/or disqualifying misdemeanor convictions.

 

We offer competitive salary and benefits, and our patrol staff transitioned to 12-hour shifts in the summer of 2022.

The “preferred” qualifications for job candidates include the above requirements, plus one or more of the following: have a college degree, received an honorable discharge from the armed services, have a minimum of four years of continuous law enforcement employment, are attending, or have graduated from a police academy, and have a current OPOTA certification.

In-service training programs and law enforcement-related courses are encouraged and provided. These programs are necessary to constantly improve the efficiency and professionalism of individual members. In addition, officers who want to continue their college education may have it paid for by the Township, if certain criteria are met and with the Chief’s approval.

There are currently no open positions available, however applications are still accepted and kept on file for 12 months, in the event an opening occurs.

About the Station

On average, the Bainbridge Police Department receives over 15,000 calls for service and makes over 450 arrests annually. The department currently operates with eleven marked squad cars and several unmarked vehicles used for surveillance and investigations.

In August 2004, the Bainbridge Township Police Department moved to their present location on Bainbridge Road. This building includes a records department, an indoor firing range, multiple holding cells, an expanded evidence-processing suite, an additional evidence bay, conference/training room, community relations and K9 suite, interview rooms, detective bureau, patrol area, and a physical fitness center that was fully equipped with private donations.

K-9 Program

Ptl. Ryan Patete is the handler for K-9 Hyce, a Belgian Malinois that was purchased in July of 2018. Hyce is trained to sniff and alert for illegal narcotics, and is also trained in tracking, suspect apprehension, building search, and area and article search. Our K-9 program is funded by private donations, and we are very fortunate that our community is so supportive of this program.

Community Programs

The department provides a number of community-related programs to enhance interaction and understanding among the residents, which include D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) and Block Watch, a neighborhood watch program.

 

CITIZENS ACADEMY

Our Citizen’s Academy is offered once a year, free of charge, to all Bainbridge residents.  The program usually runs for seven weeks (one night per week), with each week covering a different topic such as crime scene investigations, patrol techniques, OVI enforcement, and a K-9 demonstration.

We Can Help

VACATION CHECKS

Before leaving your home for vacation, or for other reasons, notify the Bainbridge Police to have your name added to our House Watch Service. An officer will walk around the property to make sure that all the doors are locked and nothing looks suspicious. We will do this daily until you return unless there is an emergency requiring all of our manpower.

VEHICLE LOCKOUTS

If you lock yourself out of your vehicle, call us and we will make every attempt to open your car.

DO NOT KNOCK REGISTRY
Effective June 12, 2018

You can now place your address on the Do Not Knock Registry. Once your address is registered, please print and display the Participation Letter for your window on or near your front door or window. Once registered, door to door solicitation as defined in Section 505.94 of the Ohio Revised Code is prohibited.

This registry excludes those representing any entity exempt from taxation under Section 5709.04 of the Ohio Revised Code (i.e. students selling items for school fundraisers, Boy/Girl Scouts, etc.).

The Do Not Knock Registry does not apply to any person going door to door, that you personally invite onto your property.

our program for children

Safety Town

Our Safety Town Program, which was started in 1976, is designed for children about to enter kindergarten and educates them in traffic, home, and bicycle safety. This is a five-day program free to all children in the Kenston School District. Private donations and proceeds from the Annual Police Department Golf Outing provide the funds for the operating expenses of our Safety Town Program. The registration form for Safety Town is available on this website. It can be completed online and forwarded to our department.
